Heartsaver – American Heart Association Approved

Medical emergencies don’t wait for professionals to arrive. Whether it’s a coworker choking in the break room, a child injured on the playground, or a neighbor experiencing cardiac arrest, bystanders are often the first—and sometimes only—line of defense until paramedics arrive.

Heartsaver training prepares everyday people to respond effectively when it matters most.

What You’ll Be Able to Do

This practical course covers the essential skills needed to provide immediate care in emergencies:

CPR for All Ages
Participants learn proper chest compression techniques and rescue breathing for adults, children, and infants. The training focuses on maintaining blood flow and oxygenation during cardiac emergencies until advanced medical help arrives.

AED Operation
The course includes hands-on practice with automated external defibrillators, teaching participants when and how to use this potentially lifesaving equipment safely and confidently.

First Aid Fundamentals
Training covers how to recognize and respond to common medical emergencies, including choking, severe bleeding, shock, burns, sudden illness, and injuries. Participants learn to assess situations quickly and provide appropriate care.

Who Benefits from This Training

Heartsaver certification is ideal for:

  • Childcare providers and teachers
  • Coaches and recreation staff
  • Office managers and workplace safety coordinators
  • Security personnel
  • Fitness instructors
  • Flight attendants
  • Community volunteers
  • Parents and caregivers
  • Anyone who wants to be prepared for emergencies

The Gap Between Emergency and Arrival

The average emergency response time varies, but even in urban areas, it can take several minutes for paramedics to arrive. During a cardiac arrest, brain damage can begin within 4-6 minutes without oxygen. Effective bystander CPR can double or triple survival rates by maintaining circulation until professional help takes over.

First aid training is equally critical. Knowing how to control severe bleeding, recognize the signs of stroke, or help someone who’s choking can prevent a manageable situation from becoming a tragedy.

Training

Heartsaver uses a learn-by-doing approach. Participants practice on manikins and with training equipment, building confidence through realistic scenarios. The course follows American Heart Association guidelines and is taught by certified instructors with real-world emergency experience.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive a Heartsaver certification card, valid for two years. Many employers require or prefer this certification for positions that involve public interaction or supervision of others.

Course Fee: $60
